Basic Icon Tutorials

No fancy-shmancy textures. Just a plain base with some plain coloring. Enjoy

1) Start off with your base, which is Jared in this case. Crop to 100x100. Sharpen if you need to. I didn't for this one.



2) New Layer, fill with 0D0101 and set to exclusion at Opacity 100%.

3) LAYER >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> CURVES. Input these numbers:
RGB:
FIRST POINT:
I: 167
O: 200
SECOND POINT:
I: 97
O: 108

4) LAYER >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> SELECTIVE COLORING. Input these numbers:
Red: -23, +10, +35, 0
Yellow: +100, +10, -23, 0
Whites: 0, 0, +100, 0
Neutral: +12, -4, +2, -10
*OPTIONAL Green: (to show his green eyes more) +100, +100, +100, +100

5) LAYER >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> LEVELS. Input these numbers:
RGB:
I: 12, 1.04, 255.
O: 0, 255.

RGB:
I: 32, 1.00, 255
O: 0, 255

3) LAYERS >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> COLOR BALANCE. Input these numbers:
Midtones: -22, 0, 0
Shadows: -29, 0, 0
(Preserve Luminosity CHECKED)

4) LAYERS >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> SELECTIVE COLORING. Input these numbers:
Red: -100, +20, +100
Yellow: +100, +56, +100
Neutral: +12, -2, -10, -10

5) New layer. Fill with 030115 and set to exclusion at Opacity 100%.

6) LAYER >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST. Input these numbers:
Brightness: -10
Contrast: -10
