I think I got two spares, or maybe three

To start off with, just because I have the link open on my clipboard still:

Very nice.

Second of all, I've been invited to do a picture-taking session with the old Photo Studio folks. Given my angst with some of them (oh lordy the DRAMA already), should I do it? We're just going to be dressing up as superheroes and taking pictures. Hmm.

When I was moving out of the basement in Chantilly and into the apartment with Beth and Jen, James and I were figuring out the logistics of moving the 20 gallon fish tank. I was trying to get it as light as possible for James, who was standing near the open door. Suddenly, a wasp flew in the door.

James panicked. His face went white and he tried, desperately, to find a way to hide from the wasp, but the wasp was blocking his movement, and anyway, he was too terrified to think straight. Eventually the wasp left of its own volition, and I just laughed at James. Just laughed and laughed.

"It's not funny!" he said.

"It's adorable," I said.

"It's not adorable," he said, "I was terrified for my life."

But I kept laughing.

On Saturday, I was chatting with my department head, Brian, about his upcoming vacation to Cape Cod. He's never been, and is planning on going with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's parents. He was just sort of just hanging out, waiting for customers. I was putting color cards away, and wondering aloud if he was going to see a lot of rich people on his vacation, because that's where rich people hang out, right? Cape Cod? Right?

Anyway, as I was saying this, suddenly a GIANT BLACK THING FLEW IN MY FACE AND IT WAS GOING TO EAT ME. I remember screaming, and suddenly I was running into the display cases on the other side of the paint desk.

Brian just laughed and laughed.

It was just a dragonfly, but still, it was awfully shiny and metallic looking thing. And it was RIGHT IN MY FACE.

There was a major workplace accident at another location on Friday. The company has stepped up its game, and locations as far away as New York are stepping up to help. We have a voluntary employee charitable fund, matched by the company itself. If someone hits a sudden crisis, the employee charitable fund is there to help. I think an employee at my location was recently in a car accident, and the Fund was able to help out in some capacity.

But this is different. This is way different. All the regional locations are contributing money, and locations from the district are sending people over to help out the store in whatever way they can. So yesterday, I was sent to that location, instead of working at my home store. I was nervous. I wasn't really sure if the culture was going to be any different. My location is the store right next to a university, and you can tell. Practically everyone goes to Mason in some capacity. How would I do if I wasn't surrounded by college-age strongmen? Plus, what if everyone at that store was grieving?

I showed up at the store. They didn't really need me, but they appreciated having me. I felt a little bit like flowers that you send second cousins when someone close to them dies. Except the card would read Sorry your employee fell off a ladder XOXO FFC rather than Sorry for your loss. I got their aisle 12 cleared up. Their managers straight-up told me that if I ever felt like transferring they'd be happy to take me. I told them I was happy where I am.

One of the other Paint Department girls, Angie, told me how I can make myself more valuable to the company, so it would be more difficult to get rid of me. I'll have to use some of her ideas. She's a nice girl, too. Hopefully this won't be the only time we meet.

Yesterday was Dad's 61st birthday! He hates it when we do big things just for him, so we do little family get-togethers and look the other away when we say, "Happy Birthday!"

First of all, it was a nice day, so we took Mom's convertible and drove with the top down.

We were driving to brunch.

The waiter took the picture. He then handed my cell phone back to me. I tossed it on my purse and missed. I worried that I would leave it behind if I didn't have it sitting on my purse, so I leaned over to pick up my cell phone and set it on my purse.

My hand missed.

I leaned over further.

And then I couldn't stop leaning.

I ended up falling directly onto the palm of my left hand, which sent shockwaves up and down my left arm and I nearly started crying in pain because my left shoulder hurt so bad. Fortunately, Lacey said something funny, and I was able to laugh and distract myself from the pain. A few hours later the pain was gone entirely.

So on that cheery note, we went bowling!

Lacey got a strike! And James was able to join us for bowling!

Yay!
