Actually Linnea is a pretty name

Sorry to be posting again, I'm probably taking over your Friends page at this point, but I've been reading something and I would like to share it with you.

I don't know exactly when -- the internet won't say -- but a 14-year-old girl ("Linnea") living in Bjorst, Sweden was raped in the face in a school bathroom by a 15-year-old boy, "Oskar." Fortunately Linnea had the frame of mind to notify the police, and fortunately the police, and her family, were on her side.

Unfortunately absolutely no one else in Bjorst was.

Oskar was a popular boy, and everyone said that Linnea had a crush on him. They say that when he rejected her, she falsely accused him of rape. Despite the fact that there was witness evidence, physical forensic evidence, and Oskar's own confession to the crime. According to townspeople, Oskar was "good-looking and kind" and wouldn't do such a thing. Immediately there was a campaign to Free Oskar. His brother started a blog (which got 2000 followers), there was an anti-Linnea Facebook group (which got 4000 Friends), there was a petition (2000 signatures).

By the way, did I mention that there's only 1800 people in Bjorst?

Linnea and her family eventually moved 300 miles away to escape from the harassment she was getting. She was ruining his life, the stupid, jealous bitch.

Oskar was allowed back to school for the graduation ceremony. He passed out flowers, everyone applauded. The local priest praised him for his courage. There was a video shown in favor of the Free Oskar campaign. That night Oskar went out partying with his friends, and he celebrated by raping a 17-year-old girl named Jennifer.

Jennifer also had the strength of mind to go the police. She had DNA evidence in her underwear. She had witness testimony. Oskar was again convicted of the rape.

Bjorst was outraged. How dare they torment poor Oskar? Those girls were such liars! They should be beaten and then raped for real! (no, seriously, someone said that)

By now a Swedish investigative show got wind of the Free Oskar campaign and decided to do a feature on it. It had the "screw the Man, man" ideal they were going for -- an innocent boy was being tormented by the courts on charges of rape. Except, they discovered, he was totally and completely guilty of all charges and for some reason the town of Bjorst was completely 100% percent in favor of a serial rapist. It wasn't the angle they started with but damn! what an angle.

There was public outrage in favor of Linnea and Jennifer everywhere except Bjorst, whose adults suddenly found themselves under intense scrutiny. "Mr. Principal," they said, "Why did you allow all those pro-Oskar posters to be put up? Why didn't you give counseling and support to Linnea in her hour of greatest need?"

"Uh," said the principal.

"Reverend Priest," Sweden said, "Why did you invite Oskar to the graduation ceremony? Why did you deliver a speech on his behalf?"

"I am very regreful," said the priest, who is currently under official investigation.

"And you! Students! Why did you applaud Oskar at the graduation ceremony?"

"Well obviously we weren't applauding him, he's rapist, you know, we were just applauding in general," said the students.

That seems to be where the internet's story ends -- here is a fully-translated page in English about the case. It appears to be the article everyone is working off of.
