I sold the spare Nickelback ticket on eBay and dutifully popped it in the post on May 15th, recorded delivery. I email the buyer to let them know what I am doing and to tell them they will need to sign for the ticket when it arrives.
I get an email yesterday from the buyer asking me for the Royal mail ref number, because Royal Mail are saying they dont have the envelope. I email back with details.
Today, ticket arrives back here with me, with the words "not in" scrawled on the front.
Tomorrow is Saturday, Monday is a Bank Holiday, the gig is on Tuesday night.
I was hoping to have the money at least in PayPal by now to cover my costs to get there. I have emailed the buyer with my phone number and given them the choice of either me putting it back in the mail in the morning with a guaranteed delivery on Tuesday (which will cost me another £5), or for them to meet me on Tuesday night at the gig and I will hand over the ticket then.
I have just written an article on postal mail, during the course of which my research dug up some statistics: in 2001, the Post Office consumer group sent 15,000 correctly addressed and stamped letters, of which 17 went 'missing'. Sounds reasonable? Yes, until you know that the Royal Mail handles 77 million pieces of mail every day in any 6-day period, which means if you do the maths, there are roughly 1 million missing items every day!
WHERE THE HEL ARE THEY?????????
Now I understand why dogs bite postmen.
