How low can you go?

If you had something you wanted to advertise, and someone said to you, "Give me the specific details by this date and I will advertise the thing for free for you in X many publications", it would sound a reasonable deal, no? But what if, after you had given them the specific details, by the agreed date, and then you found that your thing was not being advertised, or was only being advertised with half the info missing - or even completely wrong info - you would be just a tad pissed, no? Probably wouldnt want to bother again?

I'm not sure how much longer we can function at work on the above scenario. Currently there are some 17,500 outstanding postgrad course updates on our transaction log. Yesterday was the deadline for institutions to supply their data to us (although no one really takes much notice of that). Given that it takes an average person all day to work through between 150 and 400 transactions if they do nothing else for 7 hours straight, and that there are only 4 people available to work on them and they are continually asked to do other things as well, we'll be lucky if we get half of it done by next Yule - and next week we start asking institutions for undergrad data. We still have 2 databases, despite being told that within 9 months of our arrival into the fold, we would have just one and life would be so much easier, so we have to update the same course twice (which means technically we have around 70,000 courses to work on just at postgrad level). And we have less staff than we did last year with little chance of getting any temp help in the near future because we cost too much as a team already. So yesterday we had an edict that we would not be processing any course content for now, just the other parts of the course. Despite it being one of our main selling points to everything except the poxy waste of space contract that we are enslaved to (supplying crap data to the national 'phone us and we'll find you a course' helpline that is usually sponsoring Jeremy Kyle) that seems to take priority over everything because the people who did the deal signed a duff contract.

We are drowning, not waving.

Exchange rate is up a little to £1 = $1.39.

Pilates and eating less does not appear to be having any effect on my body at all. Today I will eat chocolate.

There was no mail today.

My Florida friend's Mom died on Wednesday, and I have forgotten 2 birthdays this month.

I dont have a team to cheer for in the Superbowl tomorrow.

But.......

I have enough food to last the week if we are snowed in (including chocolate), Lily will be here in a couple of weeks, we came 6th out of 19 on Monday night at the pub quiz, and I will be seeing friends in a few days time. Things could be a lot worse.

:)
