2014

Hello, 2014!

Another year, another post. I had forgotten this journal existed until a friend reminded me. It only seems appropriate that I come back online and make another series of promises, pledges, and predictions.

But first, let's see how I did in 2013. Did I meet the four goals I set? Not exactly. I was, however, able to look back at the year, pick four events, and pretend those were my goals. Close enough.

Last year I saw the Pacific, tried bungee-cord jumping, tried zip-lining, and ran a half marathon in under 1:30. I might be stretching a little bit to include zip-lining, but it fits nicely into the face-fear-of-heights mini-theme.

In 2014, I'm going to need another four goals. I saw Newfoundland for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I think that counts. If I keep one travel goal per year, I'll slowly cross off the rest of Canada. Just three provinces and three territories to go. Well, maybe just one territory is enough. I really hate the cold.

At some point, I would love to qualify for the Boston marathon, but I'm not confident it will be this year. If I wait another year or two I'll be afforded a few extra minutes for my advanced old age, and those minutes might really come in handy.

I hate to be repetitive, but I think I'll stick with writing a short story and learning a bit of guitar. Maybe three songs? These should both be pretty easy, but they've both eluded me for years. Lastly (and this one might change), I'd like to try sky diving. Maybe 'like' isn't the right word. Terrified. I'd be terrified to try sky diving. And that could be perfect. I just have to come to grips with the recklessness of the act. When I was younger, I always thought it was a bit self-indulgent. We have the entire earth to explore, but we want to fly too. Is it rude? Is it a bit childish to take this incredibly precious gift and roll it on the roulette wheel?

The jury's still out on that one.

Either way, time's a tickin'. Alright 2014, let's make this happen.
