[She wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. There was very little she could think right now, because things were making sense, falling into place and everyone in town was learning the same things. And they were things she had hoped weren't true ( Read more... )

[While staying up past midnight was something Luke had done in the past whenever something important was going on. The recent broadcast had him absolutely freaked. He was vaguely familiar with what air raid sirens sounded like, he had never encountered something like this back home.

Someone had played that broadcast with a purpose in mind. Was it a warning?

In any case, Luke's noticed all the lights turning on and goes to investigate. When he spots Roshian, he tries to (poorly) hide his all of his fears for the moment.]

Ah, miss Roshian.

[She's standing in the kitchen, ignoring the fact that she can't see much out the window because of the lights glowing inside the house.

She should be feeling something right now, but she can't, and when she turns to face Luke again, her expression is calm.]

Luke.

You've...

[Heard of the broadcasts, right? Of course she had, who hadn't heard them? Besides, he didn't think she'd be turning on all the lights just for fun.

He's not sure what to say for a long time.]

The broadcast.

[There was a question there. A lot of questions, but he was too afraid and just couldn't think straight enough to ask them.]

Да.

[She doesn't move. Maybe if she stares out towards the edge of town she will be able to see fires in the distance, mushroom clouds.]

Town is playing very dangerous game.

Yeah.

[If bombs fell, he highly doubted they'd be able to come back the next day like before.]

It's a warning perhaps.

Нет. Not broadcast. Entire world, entire war. Very foolish, very dangerous.

Will need to do everything possible to prepare for results of town's foolish actions.

[She doesn't move to comfort him, doesn't realize that he needs it. She's very detached from everything, looking out the window.]

[Well it would help if he actually said something, but that darn pride keeps getting in the way.]

How do we even prepare for something like that?

Bomb shelters, first of all. And gather water and food and clothing and medical supplies and many other things. Will need something to filter air, lined walls in shelter to block any radiation.

[If a bomb drops on Mayfield, it will not be small. They will not survive, no matter how many bomb shelters they make.]

Will be something. If we are very very lucky, it will be enough.

I hope you're right.

[A solemn glance out the window. They'd have to work quickly if that was the case. How long would they live in a shelter? What was going to happen to them if they even survived?

He thought for a moment, trying to remember if he told his parents he loved them before being brought back here.]

And if we are very lucky, attacks will not happen.

[Quiet and serious.

But if the attacks don't happen, that means that there is no one left to retaliate.

Sure, I suppose...

[Very lucky, huh? They didn't have the best luck in Mayfield though.]

Is... more than likely will be no one there to attack us.
