I just finished The Eyre Affair. What a frustrating book! I thought the last hundred pages or so were pretty brilliant, but the 250 before that were, frankly, a bit of a slog. Is it just because I'm a dork about Jane Eyre? Possibly, but I also think that a novel called The Eyre Affair should have more Eyre and less...whatever else was going on there. Action, exposition, action-exposition, blah blah blah I don't care. Where's Rochester?
Now I'm conflicted, because I've heard that the subsequent books are a bit of a letdown (which, to quote Miss Congeniality, that doesn't inspire much confidence), but they sound so much better. And also, Miss Havisham! I love Miss Havisham!
Maybe after Harry Potter and Atonement (which is excellent so far, by the way).
