So come on rest your bones with me

I love today.

- Church: Final choir performance of the spring season--Worthy to be Praised; that's not us, but you get the idea--followed by much-needed-by-me sermon on God's relating to me having nothing to do with how well I follow the rules of religion. (Pastor) Mary Ellen also reveals, awesomely, that she sometimes gets so nervous about preaching that she sometimes does so without her contacts in, so that she can't see the congregation.

- Birthday lunch!: Not for me. Six of us head around the corner to Raleigh's, friendly neighborhood pub/beer garden, for outdoor lunch in flawless seventy-five-degree weather. Waiter offers birthday boy John a free Guinness if he'll pound it standing on the bar; sadly, due to it being one p.m. and his being between church services (of which he is in charge), he's forced to decline.

- It's really not as creepy as it sounds: captainoz and Luke and I decide to find a park in which to spread out blankets; end up spending glorious afternoon under a tree at the enormous cemetery at the top of Piedmont Avenue. They do work; I read and write. We chat and eat cookies. It's perfect, even if we never do actually see the wild turkey we can hear gobbling away in the distance. (ETA: captainoz's pictures here!)

- Ja jan myun: Dinner of handmade dumplings and my favorite-favorite Chinese-Korean dish, of which I can never remember the name and which I wouldn't even know how to find outside of Oakland--lightly fermented black bean sauce with onions and minced beef or pork, served over noodles. NOM.

- OMG!: Receive a text from a friend whose husband's BFF knows I like The National. Husband's BFF has a ticket for their May 26 show at the newly restored Fox Theater in downtown Oakland, but can't use it anymore and wants to know if I'd like to go instead. He won't take any payment, though obviously baked goods can be doorbell-ditched if necessary. (This is the SAME WEEK that I'm going with midtownmandy and rotatingpies to the Frightened Rabbit show at the Fonda in LA. Ooh la la, life!)

Unrelated: I've applied to seven summer internships in LA! Auuuugh! Yay! Call me! I think!

Also, I feel the need to confess that I am not watching Doctor Who, due entirely to confusion about when/whether it's on legally, and I feel like this is a sad state of affairs. How am I missing the glory that is apparently Eleven + Amy Pond? On the other hand, with Southern accents/sexytimes/train hijinks on Chuck and then the return of "Hot Blooded" to Bones, TV life is pretty great.

Well played, Sunday.

muzak, yay!, bones, chuck, church, yum!, cayac, dr. who
