I am supposed to be writing a review of Juno right now, and have surprisingly little to say about it. And I'd so much rather NOT think about anything requiring actual brainpower. So: LJ! Hi, LJ! Hi!
I finally got up the energy to come home from my parents' house this morning, mostly because I just couldn't live another moment without shaving my legs and conditioning my hair, and my weird little travel kit didn't have the right stuff. So now I'm here and have unpacked and rearranged my apartment to accommodate Christmas presents (maintaining the DVD shelves is a delicate balance, you know?) and eaten something besides cheese, Chicken-in-a-Biskit crackers, mashed potatoes, reheated gravy, stuffing with the giblety bits picked out, and pie. This is progress.
Christmas was nice: low-key, just me and my parents for the daytime and some family friends for Christmas dinner, with frantic house-cleaning in between. We're one of those families that takes FOREVER to do Christmas. We sleep in, open stockings (The Office office supplies for me, including the "I [Heart] Jim" memo cube, even though my mom has no clue who Jim is or why I might heart him), make and eat a leisurely breakfast, and then do presents using the one-person-one-present-at-a-time model. It's a production. But it's fun. I got The Office S3, The Philadelphia Story, the complete Arrested Development (from my awesome brother), a decent chef's knife, Modern Library copies of David Copperfield and Bleak House, and some clothes that my mom did a surprisingly good job picking out. I repaid her by making her watch The Office and The Philadelphia Story with me, but I think she was, frankly, a little bored by both of them. Oh, well.
Yesterday my poor dad had to work, so Mom and took our annual post-Christmas pilgrimage to the J. Crew outlet in Napa. Have you experienced the glory of the J. Crew outlet? For it is a place of wonder. Cashmere sweaters : $55! Non-cashmere sweaters: $20! Other worldly delights: ridiculous prices! I got two sweaters and had to tear myself away from a $49 silk party dress that didn't quite fit. And then I took my mom to see Enchanted, which she'd been dropping heavy hints about. As far as I can tell, it was everything she'd dreamed it would be, and my dad will be forever grateful that I spared him that particular fate. Good times. I think I should get extended time off more often.
Oh, what to do next? Juno review? Or random TV? Or perhaps book time, which will inevitably turn into a nap? Nobody knoooooows the troubbbbbble I've seeeeeen.
I'm off to see friends in Phoenix tomorrow; talk to you next Wednesday if I can't sneak some time before then!
