Daniel looked lazily around the park. It was relatively empty thanks to the fact that it was a Tuesday. As he sat there below a tree he pondered on the past year and knew he needed to focus on what he wanted to do with his life. His career was going nowhere and his relationships sunk faster than the Titanic. His last break up left him devastated and it was at that moment he decided that his New Year resolution was to keep away from men, attractive men in general, and not to get carried away by sweet words of promise.

Daniel sighed and leaned back against a tree trunk. He blinked a couple of times trying to concentrate on the pages that lay before his light blue eyes. He loved to read and he often wished he had more time to devote to this particular love of his.

He took a deep breath of the crisp air and as he cast his eyes towards the gray skies he had no doubt that it was going to rain. He wanted to finish the book before the first drops fell and damn if he let a few raindrops get in his way.

“Ok Daniel” he muttered to himself “if you can just ignore the fact that your back is killing you and your eyes can do all but see, you should be done in another half an hour.”

“By that time I’m sure your facial muscles will also be sore” a voice with a slight foreign accent drawled from behind him.

Daniel was startled by the sudden interference and turned around too quickly, making his head swim. Standing a few feet away was a man in fitted blue jeans and a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up revealing his tattoos. His head was covered with tiny outgrowths of dark hair and his eyes were-well, he was wearing gladiator shades so he could not tell what color his eyes were but he longed to know. His shoulder was broad and his face looked as if it was carved in marble.

He walked over and was looking down on him with an amused expression and his lazy pose indicated that he’d been watching him for quite some time. Daniel glared at him hoping his glare would put the man in his place.

Dan led a hectic life, what with managing a pub at night and working as an office assistant during the day, and all he wanted was some peace and quiet to finish his precious book. He was annoyed that someone had the nerve to intrude upon his free time.

Daniel sat back without saying a word and pretended to read but the strange, yet very attractive, man kept standing right behind him and he could feel his gaze burning into him. He felt extremely uncomfortable under his gaze and he wished the man would just leave him alone.

“I’m Martin” the man finally said with an outstretched hand. Daniel stared at the man’s perfect mouth for a second too long before moving his gaze to his hand. He noticed that Martin had huge hands and long supple fingers and groaned inwardly at the thought of those hands on his body. “Behave” he warned himself.

“Did you say something”? Martin asked. Daniel just shook his head and cursed inwardly.

Daniel suddenly got up, starting to walk away and said “I have to go”. The man smirked and turned his mouth at the corner “I thought you were hell bent on finishing the book come rain or shine. Could I at least know your name”?

Daniel scurried away pretending he hadn’t heard Martin. Dan was angry with himself for behaving the way he just did. But that man, Martin, unnerved him in a way no one had ever done before. And he was definitely attractive, very very attractive, all the more reason to stay away from him if he had any chance of sticking to his New Year Resolution.

And just like that he slipped on a damp patch of grass and fell down. He managed to let out a curse before he realised he’d hit his head on a protruding stone and then suddenly there was darkness.

***

Martin smiled down at the man who was stretched out along the grass resting his head on his lap. He had seen him earlier by the tree reading a book and had watched him carefully. He was drawn to him- he had to admit that. And he wasn’t sure why. He certainly wasn’t his usual type. Well, he really did not have a “type” but if he did he was pretty sure this tattooed freckled man would not be it.

He had seen him from the distance, fidgeting with a book and he could not help but be intrigued with the man, whose name he didn’t even know.

And now he was unconscious having hit his head while trying to run away from him. Martin gazed down at him as he brushed a lock of chocolate colored hair from the man’s forehead. He moaned and Martin decided he’d never heard such a soft, sweet sound. He wanted nothing more than to put his lips to the man’s at that moment.

Damn it all. What was wrong with him? He knew better than to get romantic over some guy whose name he didn’t even know.

“C’mon love” Martin said kneeling down beside him and pressing his lips to his forehead. “It’s time to open your eyes”.

***

Dan moaned as he felt a large hand gently stroke his cheek. He opened his eyes ever so slightly and then he opened them even wider when he saw the man peering intently at him, his face a mere few inches from his.

From this position Dan could see Martin’s blood red lips and he longed to reach up and touch it just to see if it felt as soft as it looked.

Then he touched his cheek again. “You gave me quite a scare you know”.

Dan stared at him blankly, unable to put together a proper sentence. It was Martin, he thought. He was far too good looking and far too close.

“Can you speak love”?

Dan’s mouth fell open “Blue” was the only word that emerged.

***

Just my luck, Martin thought. The most gorgeous looking man in all of London lands in my lap and he’s completely crazy.

“What did you say”? he asked more intently.

“Your eyes are blue”. His voice came out strangled.

“Yes I know. I imagine they’ve been that way since I was born”.

***

Dan squeezed his eyes shut. Dear Lord, did he just say that out loud? That’s gotta go down in his book of stupid things you did/said in your life.

Martin chuckled “I suppose your accident has not left you color blind. Now can you tell me your name? I’m dying to know”.

“Erm-Uh” Dan coughed covering up his stammer “Daniel. My name is Daniel”.

“You’ve an interesting accent Dan. Are you not from around here”?

“Um,no. I’m actually from Denmark. Moved a few years back”

“Are you fine now, cos, u know, you hit your head”

“I’m fine. I-I really ought to be getting back now, I think”. Good Lord, he was stroking his cheek again and he absolutely could not keep a sane thought in his head when he touched him. He kept staring at his full lips, wondering what they would feel like against his own. Dan groaned, blushing at his thoughts.

Martin caught the sound immediately and his eyes clouded with concern “Are you sure you’re fine, love”

“I don’t think you should call me love”

“Ah, but I think I should”

“__”

“It’s the oddest thing,” Martin murmured “but I have the most appalling urge to kiss you”.

Dan barely had time to process those words when his lips swooped down to capture his in a soft kiss. He felt all the breath rush from his lungs, leaving his skin hot and tingling.

“Oh my Goodness” the words came out involuntarily.

He chuckled “You talk when you kiss too”?

“Oh” was all he could manage.

“Actually, I find it rather endearing” he smiled lovingly.

Dan looked at Martin’s face and decided that he’s never seen a person’s face change so much with just a smile. And he knew at that moment he was done for. He licked his lips again and stared at his mouth.

Martin’s eyes flashed with something akin to possessiveness, and his mouth touched his lips once again. This kiss was just as gentle as the previous one, but so, so much deeper. His tongue feathered along the line of his lips until he parted them with a sigh. Then he moved in, exploring his mouth with lazy confidence.

Dan sighed when he broke the kiss. He felt Martin putting his head gently on the grass and in the next moment he put out his hand pulling him up in one swift movement. His chest pressed against Martin’s and he felt so safe and sure for the first time in his life. He knew somehow that this man, who was slowly rubbing small circles on his back, was different from all the others he’s dated in the past. He knew he’ll take care of him. He smiled at that thought.

“Can I see walk you home”? he whispered gently in his ear.

Dan just smiled at him and nodded, pressing a chaste kiss on his lips.

Hand in hand they walked through the park, New Year Resolution already forgotten.
