In recent events,
wheat gluten imported from China killed thousands of reported pets in the United States. A toothpaste imported from China called
Cooldent contains DEG (also known as diglycol or diglycol stearate), which is used in solvents and antifreeze, have been recalled and announced to consumers to throw away.
I just heard today from my mom about
baby toys and clothes from China. Toys contained "Industrial waste, including dirty carpet fluff, paper and used instant-noodle packaging"
sources say. "These fluffy toys with bacteria or even viruses in them could cause children to itch if they touch them for a short time, or even cause disease over the long term," "...some baby clothes contained chemicals that could cause skin problems." Although, this practice isn't new. A product made by TKO in Houston, TX did something similar. They had
dirty underwear filled punching bags which
Costco had to recall.
There's very little regulation over in China and the FDA in the United States are not doing enough to protect consumers here. Even if the product says Made in USA, supplies may have been purchased from China.
The New York Times reported Wal-Mart's new line of organic food, which will be supplied from either Mexico or China. So be warned when buying organic foods there. The standard or their definition of organic may not be at the same high standard as some other stores. I don't normally shop organic foods, but I think Whole Foods and Central Market tend to be pretty good. Although, I would still look into it.
