Cellphone Scam beware!

Jul 31, 2006 18:01

I just noticed my bill was a little higher than usual. I didn't go over my minutes nor used any pic msg.

I checked online to see the detail bill and behold...I had been subscribed to "JAMSTER" WTF? I never subscribe to this. Well, according to T-mobile if you have ever text google (46645), this company is affliated with them. The tricky part is Google text is free. I don't know how I got in it because I never downloaded anything to my phone. That's where the fine print comes in. The problem now is, T-mobile can't unsubscribe me and then Jamster says they have no record of my cell number in their system. #@%@ WTF? So, now they asked to fax them a copy of my billing. Who the heck knows if that'll do the job. i looked online to see what the heck it is. And it turns out some people are filing a lawsuit again them. There is no regulation for this. *grunts*

"Jamster, the U.S. name of Jamba and German mobile content provider that VeriSign acquired in June 2004, has been sued for allegedly misleading young consumers into paying for expensive text messages.

The lawsuit, brought by Charles Ford, claims his daughter was lured into the service. Filed in San Diego last week, he accuses Jamster of fraud and false advertising. Advertisements claimed cell phone users can get a free ringtone by sending a text message to the company. In reality, those customers would afterwards get text messages from Jamster that cost $1.99 each, in addition to the carrier's standard per-message charge." (Mobiledia, Wed Apr 06, 2005)
