The election....
So...
Florida went BLUE!
And so did the country!!!!!
Yay Barack Obama!!!!!!
However, very unfortunately...
Amendment 2 of the Florida Constitution (which defines marriage as between one man and one woman), passed. A couple weeks ago there was a McCain rally on campus, and I went, thinking that even though he sucks, it's still a monumental event in history. Aside from the constant cries that Obama is a communist, they were passing out a pamphlet about Amendment 2. This is just part of it:
"A YES vote on Amendment 2 does one thing, and one thing only: It defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman as husband and wife in the Florida Constitution, but it does not prevent the government, or private companies, from extending benefits to whomever they wish"
And here is where the pamphlet really really pissed me off:
"Amendment 2 protects our children from being taught in public schools that same-sex marriage is the same as natural marriage. If same sex marriage is legalized i Florida, public schools will be forced to teach your children and grandchildren that homosexual marriages are equal to marriages between a man and a woman. Since homosexual marriage was legalized in Massachusetts, public school teachers are now being forced to teach this very thing."
