Until recently, I've never really been too jaded about the medical profession. I've heard my share of horror stories but have overall been treated pretty well. Well, after having blood test number 5 or so, and hearing a bunch of opinions that are clearly exaggerated and seeing medical professionals jump to conclusions when it is not warranted, I am officially annoyed. Then I get a letter in the mail about the aforementioned blood test, which gives me my results with no explanation of what they mean, no answer to the question the blood test was supposed to address, and a letter talking about how I need ANOTHER blood test in 2 weeks after starting a medication that, as far as I know, I was never planning to start (and according to the all-powerful intarwebs should not be taken with the medication that I was planning to start). Now this may be idealistic, but I usually expect a phone call with important blood test results (and have usually gotten that in the past), as opposed to an unintelligible set of numbers and a letter that was clearly a form letter sent without looking at my chart. Then I call the nurse who signed the letter, and the recorded message goes on about how much support they give their patients. Paula is not amused.
If this is incoherent, it's only because I'm irritated (and possibly because I no longer have to write 20 page papers for grad school).
