diaries of a laboratory scientist

Sometimes working in a biology field sucks. More specifically when you have to do growth time trials. I was here at 11:30 last night setting up my bacteria cultures and now I'm here slightly after 7am to start taking readings. At least I have time to go home for about an hour and shower/eat breakfast before my next reading. I'm glad I don't work with tissue culture, though, (Tissue culture is an artificial way of maintaining cells from a multi-cellular organism NOT in organism or organ form. This can refer to undifferentiated cells (ie: stem cells) or differentiated cells (ie: cardiac or neuron cells). Scientists that work with tissue culture can't miss a day of work - EVER. That includes weekends. If they don't go in and care for their cells they die, and the biologist must start all over again.

On a positive note, I love being the only person in the lab. If I wasn't half asleep I would be inclined to sing loudly to my iPod.
