It's spring break. I've done all sorts of fun things. I took a road trip to Boston and New York with the boy to see Amanda and Lacey. The boy made fun of me for driving 10 hours to spend all day cooking in Boston, but he seemed to enjoy New York a lot. It was great to get away from CMU and spend time with friends and see cool things. Like the Reading Railroad and a sign for Lafayette College in Easton, PA and the town where Subway has its headquarters. And then I spent some time at home, cleaning and shopping and spending time with the boy.
But last night I was feeling a bit out of sorts. I'd been thinking lately that I wanted to read something of quality, like Atlas Shrugged or Contact or Cryptonomicon or Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. So I perused our shelves in the living room and found The Caves of Steel. I remembered how much I had enjoyed I, Robot, and this certainly lived up to that. I went over to the boy's and just read for about 5 hours straight until I finished it. I don't let myself do that very often during the school year. I'd forgotten how nice it is to just lose yourself in a book. You can be alone, away even from yourself. Though it was kind of nice to have the boy in the room whenever I came back to reality. Companionable silence has been sparse of late.
And now, it's time to perhaps actually accomplish something this break.
travel,
books,
friends,
the boy,
spring break
