Misconception (A Poem)

Myth:

The teacher

looks deeply

into his young student’s questioning eyes,

and he weeps…

because in those beckoning eyes

his long-lost dreams have become a reality,

a future has already been found,

and he is looking at himself

who was neglected long ago,

…and so, while looking,

he weeps: for

this is a future

not

his own.

Truth:

The teacher smiles

into the young student’s eyes

and he laughs

because

what he sees

are his own dreams

filtered through another's

soon to become transformed

and that which he once thought

was his own future

is now running away from him

and so, he laughs

helplessly along with himself,

as he weeps.

poetry, my stuff, misconception (a poem), fun stuff, poettsociety, :)
