Update from Rotation #1

Jul 06, 2011 03:39

Third year has started.

I'm in Hawaii for my first rotation of 3rd year and I must say that it has been pretty easy so far. The psych department doesn't start rounds until 0730 and I get out by 1600 with weekends off. I'm actually kind of bored. I need to do more.

It's been surprising how easy it has been to talk to patients. I've always been pretty uncomfortable when it comes to talking about personal feelings and thoughts so I thought the countertransference would be problematic but it really hasn't. It has been easy to walk into a patient's room and just let them talk.

Supposedly I've been doing pretty well. At morning report today I got to present two cases from when I was on call. I was pretty nervous because I was presenting the cases in front of the whole psych department.

Mostly I've been missing Jeff. It's funny how a beautiful place like Hawaii can seem pretty lame when you're far away from your family.

I still don't know what specialty I'm interested in but I'm still waiting for my Step 1 score which will determine what specialties I can even apply for.
