So I watched Dead Man Walking today with one of the girls here... and well it really made me angry. As any film about the Death penalty does. I just hate that we still have this notion of justice being taking the same thing the other person took.
I am not siding with killers by any means. What they did is wrong and terrible. I just don't think more death is any way to deal with it.
Throughout the whole movie, all of the people that were for the death sentence would quote from the bible, "An eye for an eye." This contradicts the overall message of the bible, which teaches love and acceptance and FORGIVENESS. "Thou shalt not kill..." yes, these people did kill, but does that really make it right to kill them in turn? What if they have learned their lesson, should they be able to live, able to regret it?
"An eye for an eye makes the world blind." -Gahndi.
Time for me to go to bed. I will post a movie review of the Squid and the Whale tomrorow.
