drugged tea and srsface talk

Aug 24, 2011 15:27

Jack nearly jumped out of his skin as Chik spoke. She'd been waiting up for him, the gold glint of her eyes searching him. He, for his part, had not expected any one to be up or for that matter his mother to be there.

"Jabbs" She had half purred half crooned his name and he felt a shiver of apprehension dance up the back of his spine. He kept his face neutral as Chik put on a light and beckoned him to join her at the table.  She even had a cup set out for him with a pot of honey and a few cookies. She had one half eaten scone at her place and Jack couldn’t help but feel like this was yet another trap. It had been two days since he’d been home, since he’d walked in to seeing a man he deemed a ghost alive and well.

“Mother.” He nodded to her as he dropped the bag holding his plate armor on the floor with muffled clanks. Chik held up the teapot and he nodded. She smiled as she poured him a cup, from the smell it was her relaxing sleep inducing blend.

“Abalo, come talk to me.” She was still crooning, and Jack fought back the unpleasant sensation that he was in trouble.  He rubbed his temples as he looked cautiously and Chik snickered into her cup. “I sent the old elf home. He’s rather understanding and agreeable Abalo.” It was rare that she called him abalo, the tauren word for child, and Jack was still tentative as he approached the table.

“Is he now?” Jack didn’t so much slip into the chair as ooze, his gaze averted even as he added generous dollops of honey to his tea.  Chik nudged the plate of cookies to him.

“Dawnsfury was quite apologetic. Noix had neglected to inform me of her surprise guest.” Chik’s tone was slightly malicious before she broke off a small fragment of scone to nibble on. Her ears pinned back for a moment before she shook her head with a sigh. “She was not pleased that I refused to allow him to stay, but I feel my decision is for the best for now.” She watched him through half closed eyes. She sipped her tea as she watched his mind turn over the news even as he chewed on a cookie and sipped tea. In her eyes he looked a little like a lost child, and he rubbed his face again.

“I… Uh.. thank you Mam.” He looked up at her finally meeting her gaze and she nodded to him with sympathy. She waited for him to take a larger drink before speaking again.

“Abalo, I know it’s been a shock for you to see your father alive, and that you need time. But I do expect you to speak with him. Air your grievances, get the dark thoughts off your chest, do and say what you need to do.” Chik gave him a sly smirk even as he sputtered and stared at her. “You are your father’s child as much as you may deny it. He’s also unsure of what to do or how to handle finally finding you.”

“I have nothing to say.” Jack couldn’t stop the words from slipping out quietly and Chik leaned back, her jewelry clinking softly. She broke off more of her scone as she stared intently at him and he looked mournfully into his tea.

“You haven’t found the words yet but they are there.” She murmured as he sipped tea pensively. Jack shook his head.

“I don’t know.” Jack drank the rest of his tea even as Chik got up and put food and the tea away.

“Tell me, did you ever think he’d chase after you when you ran away?” She leaned against her counters watching his face again for more clues. Jack made a noncommittal grunt as Chik mosied over to hug him. He relaxed slightly.  “Jabbs,”she crooned softly, “Your father spent the night you ran away in a jail cell for assault. He claimed that it was nothing just a small fight because a friend had dismissed you as trash. Noix, in her own words, stated that the friend was a dumbfuck that tried to stop your father from following you as well as dismissing you. Dawnsfury turned an amusing shade of red, especially as Noix stated that the elf was lucky to get off with only disfigurement.” She felt Jack tense in shock even as he relaxed under the effects of her tea and soothing hug.

“I… He’d never do anything like that. I don’t think he could ever get angry, no matter what I did he was calm, or pliant. Even with my real mother or my grandparents, he never showed anger.” Jack fought sleep even as Chik scooped him up a gentle laugh rumbling in her chest. Jack was getting too sleepy and he realized she’d dosed him with a dreamless sleep potion. “Y’drugged me.”

“That I did Abalo. Now you should ask your father if it’s true that he melted an elf’s face for telling him to throw you away and trying to stop him from finding his child. I’ll leave Dog with you tonight, and sleep well.” She smiled as Jack still fought his losing battle with sleep. She gently tucked him in, as her rune dog curled up under the covers with a muffled groan of contentment. She nodded to herself satisfied with the evenings endeavor.
