I, have a fish at work. His name is Victor. There is of course a story behind this fish, there is always a story. This fish was originally purchased by a welder and his girlfriend while they were working on a job up in Michigan for my company. These people left the fish in the 5th wheel they were living in. They left the place trashed too, but eh. That’s beside the point. Now when one imagines welders one should come up with grimy grubby sweaty men who stink of hot metal , diesel, and just tough work. These are not the type of men who’d remember to feed a fish. One moved into the trailer with Victor the betta fish and he lived there for a month.  When it came time to head home they packed up and somehow the fish ended up in the sink. He lost all his water, except for about two inches.

This fish survived a trip across country in a 5th wheel, after being in the care of a welder, and losing almost all his water.

This fish is a trooper. So I named him Victor. It was either that or calling him the Finned Nike of Elko. (a play on the Winged Nike of I can’t spell the place anymore I fail as an art student.)

Victor is a happy fat little betta now. When I come in, in the morning he gets a pinch of fish food, and I sear the little bugger breaks the surface reenacting Great Whites tossing seals in the air. He scarfs the food so fast bubbles pop out of his gills. I love this fish. He stares at me and swims to the surface when he knows he’s made eye contact.  He is a funny little fish and he’s a beautiful red.

rainbows, huzzah!, life
