It is said that after the world flooded and Noah took his ark filled with a paring of all animals, he despaired for some time that he might never see land again. The world was filled with water and all that was left was himself, his family, a number of animals, and this immense boat that the God of the Jews bade him make.
Since he had made no extra boats for exploring, everyday he sent forth a raven to fly and scout for any signs of dry land, to discover if there was anywhere they could put to "port" and begin life anew.
Each day the raven returned and told Noah that there was no land and each day Noah despaired all the more.
It is said that the raven, sorry to see this great man that had saved its life and the lives of all its future generations, decided that it was up to it to bring joy back to this man. Thus the raven set forth and remade the world. How the raven did this is unknown for it was but a simple bird. All that is known is the raven went forth and when it returned it came back with news of finding land.
Land that had not been there before.
So, while humans may owe God the debt of making the world that they all live on...it is in fact a raven that humanity owes for still having a place to live upon.
Consider this the next time you witness the doings of a great black bird. They are not often viewed or treated well.
