I've had a somewhat surreal last five days.
So on Wednesday, I woke up in pain presumably from over-exerting myself in a new cycling workout. Nope, not my legs, my shoulders--the stabilizing traps to be precise. Determined that a swim would work it out, I headed to the pool at lunchtime but found myself with a lung-full of water when I tried to turn my head to inhale. Oops. I hadn't realised it was quite that bad. I struggled through the rest of the day, including a local food 5à7 when...
... on my way home I got mugged in the metro and my iPhone was stolen. It was snatched right out of my hand, albeit not without a fight followed by a good 500 metre sprint, but guys in running shoes are faster than a gal in heels and the phone was gone. I did that whole police report thing but was pretty much told not to hold my breath. Apparently iPod and iPhone snatchings are becoming very common, especially in the metro system. Usually I'm really careful with my phone in the metro, and was actually paying some attention to these guys because they didn't 'feel' right. Oh well. A lesson for me to actually act instead of pay attention.
(I have to say that the metro staff were great. The cleaner at the station also tried to chase the thiefs down, which was more than anybody else in the metro did. At least for a brief time I forgot how badly my shoulders were hurting me. Go adrenaline! Wait, that's probably what got me the pain to begin with. )
On Thursday, I learned that Rogers will not sell you an iPhone without also selling you a contract. Since I already had a contract (you know, to go with my stolen phone), they couldn't sell me a iPhone, although they could sell me a blackberry or any other phone. They said they'd happily activate another iPhone onto my contract, but they couldn't actually sell me one. Go figure. I ended up buying one at the Apple store and getting it activated onto my Rogers contract. Bonus: This one is a 3GS.
On Friday, I learned that the police had coincidentally recovered my iPhone from a suspect that they had stopped for something else. The Sergeant that called me didn't know that I had filed a theft report, but was thrilled that I had because (I get the impression) it actually gave them something more tangible to hold the guy on. Today they let me know that it may be a while before I see my phone again since they need to hold it 'in evidence' for an extensive investigation. That's fine with me. If it helps their case, they can hold onto it. I'd resigned myself to the cost of replacing it.
Most of my weekend was spent in a mess of painkillers and either on my back or with my neck wrapped in a towel as I tried to take the weight of my head off my traps. All plans, with a couple of exceptions got canceled. On the plus side, I managed to finish Dharma Punx, a book that added to the surrealness of everything because I could relate to so much of it. Yesterday at least I could move my neck again. I resisted the urge to go to the gym though. This morning it seems to be mostly fine. I'll try a workout this evening and see what happens. Needless to say,the bike routine is going to wait until later in the week.
