Yesterday I met the 4th and 5th graders that I will be subbing for while their teacher is on maternity leave. Technically 4th grade, but they switch with 5th grade for about an hour or two every day. Mrs. Ferrel was very nice, and a lot of her traits reminded me of myself. She likes consistency and has high but clear expectations for her class. And although her classroom runs smoothly her desk is still covered with plies of papers.
I have been very apprehensive about 4th, well mostly 5th grade. They are larger kids, with harder subject matter. All kids can sense fear and well I generally feel more comfortable with younger children. However, after meeting these classes and seeing how well, for lack of better word, trained they are I feel more excited for this opportunity. The school I'm at is a very small school. Most of the grades are split grades like, 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd, and so there are only a total of 7 classes in the whole school. And although a small school means that everyone talks (I found out the 1st time I subbed there) it also means that everyone knows what’s going on, which makes it easier for them to help you. I think I like this small school setting because everyone seems to truly care and to genuinely want to help. Bullitt County has impressed me from day one, and therefore, I am hopeful that a contact from this opportunity may lead to something more permanent. I'm also excited to just get the chance to gain more experience with the intermediate grades in general.
Oh and if anyone’s interested I’ll be teaching Language Arts and Science.
After observing yesterday I ran some errands before getting ready for game night. I've been run down lately and the severity hit me after reflecting on my recent energy levels. While observing I felt tired and all I was doing was sitting. During my errands I felt like I was so tired that I could take a nap in my car ... it was a feeling of I dunno if I'll make it home before falling asleep. I did catch a small nap before friends came over to play games, and I did make it through most of the games before feeling really run down. As soon as everyone left though, I crashed and I crashed hard. I slept for 13 hours, and last Friday I slept for 12 hours. When I finally got out of bed at 2 this afternoon it took me several hour before I could begin doing anything productive. Besides the excessive tiredness I have been having a really awful time remembering or being able to recall things. Whether is going to search for something on the internet and forgetting by the time the browser opens what I was going to search for to struggling to remember 2-3 items I need to get at the store. I have been hardly working and so I can't blame a crazy schedule. Whatever the cause is for my funk I hope it passes soon. Now that I've been up for 12 hours its time for me to hit the hay again.
