There are epigrams and inspirational messages that
you read so often that they begin to sound almost
cliched.
Often, a person or a situation you come across
suddenly brings home to you the truth of one of these.
It happens unexpectedly and leaves you wondering how
you failed to realise the value of something you had
heard at least a few dozen times.
"I cried because I had no shoes till I saw a man who had
no feet."
Your self-pity vanishes when you remember a little girl's
large black eyes, full of pain and perplexity. Also there is the
knowledge that you might enjoy having both feet and shoes,
until one day the very ground beneath your feet is snatched away.
Why is there suffering in the world? Why do the innocent suffer?
Is the world we inhabit a blighted one?
Perhaps the theory of karma and rebirth is valid after all...
karma,
life,
suffering
