I have just started reading Literary Theory : A Very Short Introduction
by Jonathan Culler.
A few chapters into the book and it has challenged my perception
of theory altogether - particularly through its discussion of Michel
Foucault's A History of Sexuality.
I can actually hear a few paradigms creaking as they shift
and I am, as Van Helsing would have put it, "dazzle, much dazzle".
Another book that had this kind of an impact on me was Simone
de Beauvoir's The Second Sex. On reading it, my ideas did suffer a
sea-change/ into something rich and strange.
I had never imagined theory could be so interesting.
