Summary:
Jared's life has always been mapped out for him: get good grades so he can get into a high-ranked college, get more good grades so he can get into an internship at a prestigious architecture firm, then land an even better job. When his uncle needs help remodeling his house, Jared volunteers. Soon after arriving at the tiny barrier island, however, he finds himself drawn into the laid back life of the locals, and one local in particular.
Jensen does alright for himself. A part-time gig at the local bar down on the main drag, along with the occasional repair work when his buddies wreck their surfboards keeps him from starving. He has a great group of friends, who know not to mention it when he talks in circles or his hands shake a little. He also has Jared now, who makes him see his home in a whole different way, and he's not too sure how things are going to look when it's time hand him back to the real world.
Artist Notes: Here's my art for riyku's story 'Second Star to the Right and Straight On Till Morning', which was written for the spn_j2_bigbang. I had so much fun working on this, and it was great to work with riyku again. *smishes* Hope you had a great time too! Defenitely go and read riyku's wonderful story!

'Jared followed the sound past a dark set of heavy curtains in the back, revealing another room with a small stage and a smattering of tables. A single spotlight highlighted the singer, his head bowed over his guitar, sitting alone on a barstool in the center of the stage. His bare feet were propped up on the rails, his knees poking through the holes in his worn jeans.'

'“Late was fine by me.” Jensen took another step closer, ran a hand along the back of Jared’s neck. “I…” He faltered, tilted his head to the side, blinked slow, and Jared’s fists clenched tighter in his pockets, his fingernails digging into the flesh of his palms. His heart jumped into his throat and he licked his lips nervously. Because maybe. Maybe.
“I, ah,” Jensen tried it again and finally gave up, tugged gently on Jared’s neck, drew him down and kissed him.'

'It seemed big, significant somehow. Not just a parlor trick. The air wavered above the shifting glowing embers, and the heat pushed at Jared’s face. Sweat trickled down his back, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was the way that Jensen nudged the back of his hand against Jared’s, fingers searching. What mattered was how Jensen tangled his fingers into Jared’s when Jared reached out, and the rub of his thumb against Jared’s, the way the calluses on their palms pressed together and matched up.'
