Friday night saw the lining of my Sephiria coat finally being attached to the inside, and I don't think I could be any happier with how it's come out. I remember the days when I never used to line anything (how did I ever let myself get away with that?) and it really does make a huge difference. I have this thing with my costumes where, even as recently as with my Rena dress (which was fully lined and put together using a pattern and a sewing machine), whenever I put them on it feels like I'm wearing a costume, rather than "real" clothes. If that makes sense. I had thought that my fabric choice would mean that my coat wouldn't really feel like a coat when it was finished, but I was very pleased to put it on and have it really feel the way a coat ought to.
So this is how it is now. The jobs left to do are:
- Make and attach cuffs
- Make and attach epaulettes
- Hem along the bottom
- Attach yellow trim
- Attach fasteners in the front
I need to figure out how to construct the sword too. Some foamboard has been bought, as per the suggestion of someone on Cosplay Island, so I guess we'll see how that goes.
In the meantime though, I had a semi-dry run in the costume last night. Excuse my lack of makeup and the fact that the coat isn't finished (and I'm crossing it on the wrong side there, oops):
And one from the back, where it almost looks finished:
Right, time to pin some trim to a collar...
