feathers and snow

the bark on the redwood trees is stained dark from the rain. the spider webs that clung to the bark weeks ago are now washed down into the crevaces to become part of the tree. water drops, like tearshaped monks diving from the upper needles catch the sunlight. calm and composed they melt into the earth. the sun is sinking beneath the still raining gray sky. someware in the east a rainbow hangs over the forrest.

i took my car out a long twisty drit road that goes over a 1000m hill. its been so cold that the snow line got down to 350m. i drove up until the bottom of my car was scraping the snow. the gravel in tire lines from big 4x4 trucks eventually gave way to packed snow. i found a place to turn around before i slid off the edge. i started walking, the snow was 15cm at frist.. i walked up the hill for 3km until the snow was 30cm. it was starting to rain. i found a spot where i could see between the trees out to the mountains. 400m down was a creek and 200m up and 4km away were snow speckeld trees sitting ontop of weathered peaks. behind me was a 10m cliff made up of moss covered rocks with old gnarled summertime baytrees at the top. i got to the top and pulled a loose mossy, lichen covered rock from beneath a tree. it rained harder, got darker, the clouds settled down, silently, on to the mountain tops. rain sank into the snow melting tiny pores in it. it melted faster and faster. the only noise around was of water falling faster from the sky, and flowing faster down the creeks. it was the manifestation of peace. and the snow level is droping to sea level.
