Car help please

Am wanting to replace my car.
I have an 03 reg Vauxhall Astra Club 1.6i Automatic Estate (rolls off the tongue doesn't it). It has 64000 miles on the clock and is in reasonably good nick (apart from taking a while to start if you don't let it have a rest and a creaking (but seemingly fine) suspension.
Now me and Hayls are living together it doesn't make sense for me to have such a big and expensive to run car when we have her bigger and cheaper (and much newer) Toyota.
Therefore all I need is a small but reliable car to get to work and back every day (30 mile round trip). I was thinking a Yaris or a Fiesta or something.
I'm not after much, preferably something with 5 doors but I can compromise.

According to Whatcar.com I can get...
Dealer £2,505
Private £2,145
Part exchange £2,100
Trade £1,990

Now the question is... could I get a reliable and fairly nice small car for this amount of money? Or am I going to be cutting off my nose to spite my face? Should I just stick with my expensive car?

If I should sell it any tips? I don't want to put any extra money into this really. Was thinking of selling it to a dealer then taking that cash somewhere else and seeing what deals I can get for buying with cash.
But I'm fairly clueless about buying cars (hence how I now own a Vauxhall...)
