first off, rockin paper. i seriously just read it all in a completly objective manner, actually trying to poke a whole in it. I was going try and nail you on the communicative property of food, but it looks like you realized that would be a tough point to make, and put extra effort into defending the idea, so really i can't put up a counter argument.

i was about to say?:
"the only thing that tefler has on you is the inability of food to display certain emotions, like fear", then I thought hard about it, and I'm pretty sure a chef could whip something up using lobster claws and crab legs that looked somewhat fearsome. communicating emotions through taste alone, though not impossible, is really tough for some things, but aesthetically, it really can convey most any emotion, like you said, through use of colors and what not, like abstract artists.

i made a few more counters but couldn't make a single one stick at all. literal ideals, you nailed...it seems the only [somewhat] good argument tefler had was the 'food can't shake us fundamentally', because it can't, no meal can teach you that you should be a good christian or that slavery is wrong...however the logic there is flawed because, as you kinda pointed out, abstract art convey's emotion, but nothing specific like a fundamental belief, and it's still considered art. that's like saying that instrumental music isn't an artform because it can't convey those same specific ideas.

I promise i just spent 30 minutes trying to blow a hole in your paper, and i was entirely unable. That may not mean much coming from an incompetent idiot like myself, but it means that you present a strong case from my wittle brain's capacity.

i suppose trying to argue with you though is like playing chess against myself, why bother trying to win when the otherside already knows what you are planning on in advance, and they're using the exact same logic as you.

good game <3

p.s.- I-bar was alright but kind of lame tonight, so you didn't miss you on too much fun.

I'm really glad to hear that you 1) enjoyed it and 2) found it hard to counter. I got an email from my professor yesterday saying he didnt get it and it was too bad since he already put in our grades...

I was like what....

So I emailed him back saying um I sent it... its in the dropbox please check

and he emailed me back today and was like "oh, I thought I had disabled dropbox as an option... I found 2 others in there. I loved your paper it was insightful, balanced and researched, an A paper by all means"

So... whew

thanks again though
