thanks :) *hugs* happy easter to you guys too! i'm trying to plan a week off during the summer where i can fly up to portland and then robin and i can drive to vancouver. i hope
a) that it happens
b) that we can stop in seattle and grab a meal together

mom is determined to hear the diagnosis without accepting it as a definite, absolute, end all be all. we'll all keep on praying for healing like we have been, now using the label of the big A. this wasn't exactly a surprise, but it's still unpleasant. dad's reaction is "shit happens" but i'm sure he's more scared, frightened and annoyed than the shrug of his shoulders suggests. i know the rest of us are even with the prior experience.

i think grandpa's illness definitely helped get dad's diagnosis sooner. we were more aware of what to notice and weren't as willing to brush individual mishaps off like everyone did when grandpa was early into the process. he made it into his mid-to-late 90's, but looking back over the years with the knowledge of how alzheimers does what it does shed some light onto decades of instances where grandpa seemed confused or forgetful in more than a more commonplace way.

err, i don't mean that mom is in denial about what is going on. more like she refuses to give into the negativity and focus on working through.
