"Those were rose-colored times on rides with your eyes closed"

I've been meaning to make a post but dang life has been kind of crazy these days.

So... The biggest thing is that I will not be buying a house this year. First, the bank turned me down for a mortgage because I don't have any proof that I will continue to be employed after my contract runs out in January. And I'm pretty sure the other bank turned down the sale before we actually turned in the paperwork for that, anyway. I got a "no" from everybody! I think once I have a job, and find another house I want, I can try again. Definitely going to get the mortgage itself sorted out as soon as possible next time. That part of the process was so freaking annoying and I can get it started before I have a house I want to make an offer on.

I'm sad and disappointed that this didn't work out but not hugely surprised. I kept expecting to get all these no's back at the beginning of this process, being a contractor and all, but when I kept not getting it I kind of stopped thinking of it as an option. They did say if I wanted to get a co-signer (boyfriend or parent, they suggested) they could do it but if I had a significant other I wanted to put on the mortgage I would have started the process with them on there. As for a parent, my mom did offer when I told her but as I told the mortgage person when they suggested it: this is not a necessity, it's just something I want. If I can't do it now, I'll do it some other time.

Of course, it's all moot since the sale didn't get approved anyway...

And while all this was going down, things at work were a little up in the air too. Our project is projected to be finished by the end of October. They really want to keep us, so, while not making any promises about things, they did start looking around for other things for us to do to extend our contracts until January when they should be able to get the headcount to hire us. And then suddenly last Friday they had a super-high priority project they needed some help on (scan a file looking for key points and then put a couple of pieces of data about what was going on into another spreadsheet for analysis). Pft. I can do that in my sleep. My boss (the one who actually signs my time cards, not the one who tells me things to do) even came by to let me know I could totally use his double monitor workstation since he'd be out of his office most of the afternoon but I'd figure out a nice rhythm for balancing the two spreadsheets. And then a while later he stopped by again to let me know that I could stay as late as I needed/wanted to get it done (we're supposed to keep overtime to a minimum unless approved). We got it done by 5 pm. Woo!

And then Monday it had escalated. So we've got stuff going in the lab too related to it. And it's expanding. If we weren't so close to being done with the original project, and have to finish it before a deadline we can't move, they'd be pulling us off it for the new thing. My co-contractor has pretty much been pulled for it but I had some stuff to do so my supervisor has been saying no (I think I might be done until Monday when I've got a review meeting for one of my bits of the project). As it was, I did help out in the evenings after everyone else had left so we could keep the machines running for longer.

My boss stopped by again Wednesday to tell us that, just in case we were wondering, this would probably be our bridging project until January when he expects the new positions to be opening up for us. We'll still have to apply but I think we'll have a very good chance. ;)

Phew. Well, I've got more, but I think I'll sign off for now. I should go to bed!
