Do what you love and fuck the rest

Five days away from the new year, so, you know, perfect time to reevaluate things:

- I'm thinking about separating my personal posts from my update posts, but I'm not exactly sure how I want to do this. I could make a new journal for updates, which I'm kind of leaning towards right now. The other option is to just keep it all here and friend-lock personal posts. Any preference?

- I've really been feeling the need to cut back on the amount of fluff. Translation: I'm really giving thought to closing a few of my sites. After I closed the MKR collective, I realized it wasn't as hard as I'd thought it would be. I'm thinking about closing Silken Aurora, The Orchids, and/or Rhapsody. The first two would be easier because they don't really serve a purpose. The Miss Rain shrine would be a little harder to close because it's a bit more sentimental, but I feel like it's kind of heavy on the fluff, anyway. There's only so much you can write about a short story before you start repeating yourself.

- I definitely want to spend more time with the creative parts of my fandom. This includes expanding the media sections of my sites: icons, layouts (does anyone use premade layouts anymore?), fanmixes, art, and fiction.

- As far as written content, I think I'm going to begin treating articles like essays I would write for class. I don't mean dull scholarly writing. I mean things like more quotes, citing sources, taking the opinions of other webmasters into consideration, and more clearly explaining events. My writing has changed a lot since I started shrining years ago, and I need to update a lot of older pieces.

- I want to take more time to get to know my friend list. The group of girls I bonded with when I first starting shrining has dwindled significantly (antinostalgic and iluwen, you're it!), and I really miss having a group like that. When I think of a cool AIM name, I'll let you know.

- Going back to journal organization, I'm thinking to keep this either a personal journal or an update journal, creating a new personal journal or update journal, and then creating a third journal for fanworks of all kinds. I just feel the need to keep everything in order. Also, I need more LJ icons. Many more LJ icons.

Christmas was all right. Spending time with the step-family isn't always easy, but nothing's blown up so far. I'm not the biggest fan of my step-father (my mother isn't either, but that's another story). He brought us a bunch of DVDs from China, so we're on quasi-friendly terms at the moment. His parents are in town until the 29th, so things will be run like a retirement home until then. His dad watches Fox News and complains about Obama all day, so we don't have much to talk about, and his mom cleans obsessively. I can't wait to go back to school and be in my own space.

I did finish Breaking Dawn, though. Really, I just can't help myself with Twilight. It's just so fail that it's almost win. I imagine this is what missdeep feels like towards Dragonaut. I FINALLY UNDERSTAND YOUR MADNESS! XD Well, sort of.

I'm still waiting on my January term books, and it's making me a bit nervous. I'm taking a study/travel course in Ireland, and I really want to get all the reading done before I leave. January will be nothing but Irish literature, and I'm so flipping excited! Never been out of the country before (unless you count Canada).

Wow, I think this is the longest post I've written in a while. Going to finish Little Miss Sunshine and sleep.
