So, we have finally embarked upon the big scary home improvement project. You know, the one that's been waiting since the house was bought. The one that you put off because it seems mostly cosmetic, and you figure you can wait another few months to spend that $5,000.
In our case, it's the flooring. The flooring in the entire house needed to go when we bought the place 8 years ago. In fact, the sellers gave us $2,000 to do just that. We spent it to pay off our credit cards. This was probably the right decision at the time, but it meant the flooring didn't get done.
So about 3 weeks ago, we had this murder mystery party, and much of the furniture got moved out. Suddenly, it didn't seem so daunting to clean out the rest of the living room to get started. In my usual impulsive way, I went to Home Depot the very next day to start researching laminate flooring (AKA Pergo). Really, it's not all that impulsive, though, since this project has been in the planning stages for 8 years.
A week later, we had ordered flooring, and the living room was painted. The next week, the old carpet and the bad part of the vinyl tile was gone. The new stuff was supposed to go in yesterday and today, but the kitchen still needs painting, and the outside door still needs finishing, and the baseboards need their second coat of stain....
Not to mention the guy who's gonna do the cieling repair couldn't come tonight, and Averill had 2 days off school all of a sudden for teacher's inservice and Veteran's Day(don't quite get how they can have 2 four day weekends in the same month). So, it seems like the sane thing to do to wait until next week. Meanwhile, I'll be painting and scraping and sanding and staining....
