About Simkin

From the Wikipedia Dark Sword article

Simkin Simkin is a magi who is immortal (however it is only subtly hinted at in the first three books) and seemingly has no morals or regard for human life (Why should he, he's met hundreds of humans). Fascinated by court life in Thimhallen (the magical land they live in), most of his tales concern the upper classes of Thimhallen and the strange things he's seen in court. Despite his many shortcomings, and personality quirks, Simkin is responsible for saving Joram's life on several occasions (although most of the time it is done inadvertently). It has been speculated that Simkin is the personification of magic, or perhaps the physical manifestation of the Almin himself (Thimhallen's resident deity, who unlike the gods in some of Weis and Hickmans more popular books, does not seem to play a proactive role in the plot of the Darksword Series).
