Letter to Myself

Self:

I know this is going to be really hard work.  You've embarked on a quest that will change you mentally and physically.  So in keeping with that, here are some pointers and gentle remonstrations.  I hope you'll remember to refer back to this when you get down.

1) Remember to eat.  I know you want to lose weight, and you do have to be mindful of what you're shoving in your face--as I know you will be--but riding on a bare minimum is not always a good thing.  You get frazzled and cranky when the tank is low.  Mangia, mangia, darling!

2) Remember to sleep.  This is even more important than remembering to eat.  You, sweetheart, are particularly vulnerable to this.  I know you want to stay up.  I know you get cocky and spout off things like "Time to rest when I'm dead."  But you can't accomplish anything when you're so tired you're falling asleep at work.  I know you don't want to miss anything--but your depression kicks in twice as hard when you're short on sleep, and your mental muscles of perception get fragile.  Sleep, baby!

3) Be kind to yourself.  You tend to think that you should be fabulous right out of the gate.  Hon, you're fabulous anyway.  Simply because you're human and you have to put a little effort (and sometimes a lot of effort) does not detract from your awesomeness.  I know this is hard for you to believe.  Think of it this way, if you must: working and working and busting a sweat to do this may prove inspirational to other people.  And isn't partly what this is about?

4)  Your friends are your goddamn friends.  Trust your friends.  Trust your trainer.  They want the best for you.  They want you to succeed.  They would not be doing this and helping you if they did not want to--if they did not see something worth helping.

Okay?

You're wonderful.

Have fun.
