I think the Twilight series is pretty awful but I'm in the wrong age group. It's been a long time since I was a teenager.

BTW, you have some of the best icon Thank you. I made a fair number of them. I'm not as good as some as I can only use MSPaint but with that I'm fairly competent in case you ever would like a custom-made icon or two.

Before it became uber-popular, I tried reading the first book. Couldn't finish, as I found it boring. Grown kids and I watched the first film (via Netflix) as a lark -- we dubbed it the "Sparkle party" and had a great time afterward contrasting the Twilight universe to traditional and BtVS vampire lore. We watched the second film (again Netflix), mainly for the werewolf graphics.

In addition to finding the vamp lore lackluster, I find Bella to be a disappointing role model for young female readers/viewers. Sitting unmoving in a chair, pining, while the seasons changed outside her window, for example -- not a very empowering message about young women getting on with their lives after their guy bails.

...but I'm in the wrong age group. It's been a long time since I was a teenager. Long time for me too! I've found it surprising how many midlife women are into the series. I live in a university community (progressive and intelligent for the most part) and almost all the midlife librarians at the public library are crazy about the ( ... )
