Merry Christmas to those wot are Christians and/or raised in a more-or-less-Christian-tradition, and happy the-movies-aren't-crowded-day to those wot aren't.
My gifts-received this year were mostly of the practical sort, because a) I'm 33, and b) I didn't actually ask for anything impractical. I told my parents I didn't want much this year because I will just have to move it in [some indefinite time frame] when I move on to [Still-Imaginary] Next Job. So, pants! Towels! A wallet! Things I needed but had deferred getting because I knew Christmas was coming. My gifts to them seemed to go over well, although I was not terribly happy with my gift-giving this year. It's hard to buy for retirees who have quite decent pensions and can buy whatever they need anyway.
Meanwhile, the
yuletide stories went live, and I once again got more than I gave, it seems like. I received three stories in the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles fandom, all of which are awesome in different ways.
Brother (Love and Duty) is all about Derek Reese, and how complicated his relationship with John (future leader of humanity, surprise!nephew) is.
As It Stands is about John, and the ways he copes with his foreknowledge and prepares himself for the inevitable. And
Time Enough is a crossover with Supernatural (with a smidge of Sam/Dean) in which the boys lived through J-Day, are sent back in time on a mission for John, and then have to make a difficult decision. Super-awesome!
I'm not sure how much other YT fic I'll be able to read from home this year: my parents' dog is a menace. I can't sit in the living room without it wanting to play catch, or nap on my lap, or try to nibble my elbows. God forbid I try to read a book or watch TV or anything. There's a reason that "puppy-dog eyes" is a cliche, is what I'm saying here.
