That call was TOTAL bullshit. I wanted to throw up when they withdrew the goal. I agree that had the Blackhawks not won, it would have been really ugly.
And good for Seabrook for cinching the win in OT! I too am hoping for a Penguins/Blackhawks match up in the finals. It would be a great series and I think it would draw a huge amount of viewers to the sport, especially after so much press from the lock-out and the abbreviated season.
I think that once the Cup is over, the amount of hockey fic is going to be over the top! I can't wait!
I feel like Pittsburgh and Chicago are probably the two most-into-hockey cities in the US right now. (I could be wrong, I dunno.) I don't really have a sense of how popular the game is or which players are actually good/famous, though, because I'm seeing it all through the lens of fandom. That said, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's sports section is almost entirely hockey, even on the days when there is no game; there were daily updates on Crosby's jaw injury and whether or not there was an optional skate and now analysis of past matchups between Pittsburgh and Boston. So I'm pretty sure Pittsburgh is a big hockey town, at the least. And Chicago, I could name more players on their team than on any other, though that's fandom again.
