This curse is so unreasonable!--
Mitsuhide . . . I know that this is something that you wish to bear alone, and have borne alone all this time. I understand, love. A "penance" . . . a "price" to pay.
But . . .
Had I a burden to bear, would you see or have me suffering alone and in silence, my love?
I know that the answer is no. As I will not let you suffer alone. I love you so much, and I want to make you happy, to heal all of you that I can. Please . . . please . . . Mitsuhide . . .

Megumi...
[A frustrated sigh, a slight pause, and then...]
A traitor's burden can only be his own. The sorrow I know from my actions are my punishment. No matter what intentions I had, I still deserve it.
If you want to listen, then I shall tell, but that does not change the burden of my soul. You do not deserve that, in any case, and I do not want you hurting.

I . . .
[A telltale whimper, and a shuddering breath heavy with tears.]
I really do understand . . . I do . . .
And I know you need time to mourn . . .
But . . .
You deserve to be happy . . . I want to make you happy . . .
It hurts me more to see you in pain when you do not have to bear it neither silently nor alone . . . My heart beats in time with yours, for we are one in love, and I know that you are grieving . . . I want to help . . . Please . . .

[A sigh.]
Megumi, you do make me happy, you know you do. I love you. The fact that you love me back is more than enough, more help than anyone else could ever give.
[A pause, and he continues.]
The pain is mine to bear, my burden, and that is just... how it is, love. Nothing can change that fact...

I love you too . . . So much . . . Oh, Mitsuhide . . .
[She listens in trembling silence to his next words, and when he finishes, she stifles a quiet sob.]
I know, love, and I understand . . . What occured then was your duty to history . . . my history, later on. But your destiny also has me--your wife, the one always at your side, always loving you, always there to share everything with you . . . Your sorrows and your joys. Everything.
Nothing can change the fact, yes, that that is yours . . . But you have me too, and I am here to help . . . you are not alone . . .
[When Mitsuhide gets home, he first heads to the bedroom to remove his armour, shedding it quickly and changing into lighter clothes. Moving to the mirror, he pulls her hair up into a bun, holding it with a pin.]
[A soft sigh, and he looks into the mirror a fraction longer after this. Mitsuhide looks tired, traces of anger still etched into his features and sorrow in his eyes.]
[Megumi is seated upon the bed, drying her tears. She knows how much Mitsuhide is suffering, and to see him plagued by his past and keeping the pain locked within himself breaks her heart. She knows that he will mourn the past; it is understandable. But to see him mourning alone . . .]
[She bites her lip, rising up from the bed to greet her husband upon his arrival home.]
Mitsuhide . . .
[She sees him at the doorway, and immediately, her heart aches at the sight of his exhaustion, at the anger and the sadness she can see in his gray eyes.]
[She cups his face with a gentle hand, smoothing her thumb tenderly upon the crest of his cheek.]
Come with me, my love . . .
[Biting her lip, she takes his hand, leading him to the bed.]
[He lets her take him to the bed, and when they reach it he lays down, staring at the ceiling. Megumi wants to talk, but... he doesn't know where to start.]
I...
[A soft sigh, and his eyes close as he bites his lip.]

[A trembling, angry sigh.]
Megumi... don't look anymore.

. . . Oh, Mitsuhide . . .
You have borne this knowledge, these feelings for so long . . .
[A slight pause, as if she is biting her lip.]
Won't you talk to me of it, love? It hurts me to see you pained . . . What I would do that I may ease your heart . . . Let me help? Please? . . .

[His voice is full of both anger and sorrow.]
Megumi, it's just that... this is my burden, the pain I must bear for my treachery.
