Given that you love Legolas so, I imagine this must have been a difficult chapter to write. You've made Legola's bitterness very real, and I liked your take on Aragorn's healing powers. Well done.

It really was a difficult chapter to write. I never find it easy to make all the emotions and reactions in such an extreme situation appear realistic and just - well, "right". *g* I'm very glad you liked my take on Aragorn's healing powers - I guess it's debatable whether he actually could or could not do what I made him do in this chapter, but I've somehow grown fond of that scene. ;-) I think poor Legolas really has all the right in the world to be bitter right now, and scared. *huggles elf* Fortunately I don't think Aragorn will allow him to remain in that emotional state for too long. Thank you so much for your review! :D

Well, you were very successful in this chapter. The emotions and reactions sounded very, very realistic to me. And as for Aragorn's healing powers given that Tolkien never really told us much about it, except that the posession of it signals a gifted individual, the way you portrayed it sounds in cannon with Tolkien's explanations of what Elvish magic meant.

That's great to know! :) The elven magic is one of the things I love most about Tolkien's books, especially since there's always an element of mystery about it. ;-)

He meant it to be mysterious, but we know that it for him it would be something akin to art, and that's what I felt in your description of Aragorn's healing powers.

Aww, thanks! *huggles* I love the idea that to Tolkien Elvish magic was something akin to art. Where did he explain what Elvish magic meant? Is it an article in a book somewhere, or in one of his letters?

You can read a lot about it in his seminal essay "On Fairy Stories". I think you would enjoy it very much.

It really sounds like something I'd enjoy reading! I'll have to see if I can get my hands on it somehow. ;-)

It's not difficult to find, and I think it's very much worth reading.

Do you happen to know if the essay is included in "Tree and Leaf"? It is included in the German version of that book, which happens to be out of print. :P The only other book I could find which has the essay in it is "Tolkien on Fairy Stories", which sounds very interesting but is a hardcover version and quite expensive.

LOL, Aragorn seems to be sleepy today. *eyes your icon* I think being a king must be tiring sometomes! :D

Yes it is. In fact, "Tree and Leaf" was the book in which it was first published. If you have trouble laying your hands on it, I can always photocopy it it and send it to you, if you wish.

LOL I think being a great king like Aragorn is must be awfully tiring. It's no wonder he's sleepy. :D

I've found the English version of the book on amazon.de, and it has both a nice price and a nice cover! :D Meaning you don't have to send it to me, but thank you so much for the offer! *hugs* I might take you up on it one day, when there's another article I can't get my hands on. *g*

I think so, too! Just having to wear a heavy crown all day would already make me tired! ;-)
