FUCK YOU SELLOUTS - MEH

Apr 13, 2004 00:16

Look at the world in disbelief
You used to follow, now you lead
College has enlightened you
And you are proud to be different
And like different bands, different types
You ain't nobody's fool
It's like certain bands remind you of someone you hated
'Cause they didn't wear the right clothing
And there's only one true fashion
And alot of the bands on the college charts are great bands
Until they get signed, then you hate them
It's such bullshit - you used to love them you hypocrite
Know it all, did you really listen to that song
Could you write what you call wrong
I remember you and I listening to bands that we liked
Only the songs mattered to you
But now you're a D.J. and preaching that hype
"Corporate rock sucks you know, college radio enlightens you"
It's supposed to serve as a means to expose new bands
Without prejudice, but it makes no sense
Safe harbor for the underground
'Til the alternative becomes the popular sound
The bands are good 'til they make enough cash
To eat food and get a pad
Then they're sold out and their music is cliche
'Cause talent's exclusive to bands without pay
Know it all, did you really listen to that song?
Could you ever write what you call wrong?

I was just talking to Derek about this. He asked me if I hated Greenday, because most punks he knows can't stand them. I love Greenday, I think they're awesome. They have NEVER changed their music and so fucking what if they made money off of it.

I've had this conversation before with people, who disagree with me. They want punk to stay underground. The never want any punk band to have any kind of success. Well guess what fucktard, if your band can't eat, it can't play music, if it can't play music, it can't make cds, if it can't make cds it can't sell cds, and if it can't sell cds, it can't ever fucking tour so you can go see them!

I dunno, I hate it when people yell "Sellout". Yeah, there are some bands who clearly have taken the easy way out, but who gives a fuck. If you're listening to the music you love, supporting it, going to shows, buying records, living thru your music, does it really matter what "Good Charlotte" or "Avril Lavigne" package is being forced onto the market?

As for bands who get any kind of success automatically becoming sellouts. I've never heard so much shit in my entire life.

The Clash, Dead Kennedys, The Business, NOFX, Rancid, Anti-Flag - all of these are famous bands now, and none of them had to "sellout" to get there.

So fuck your bullshit attitudes you lamer fucks! Support punk rock, don't fucking whine about it. UNITY you bastards!
