Yesterday Adam & I had the best day. We woke up and he made us a yummy veggie egg scramble. We were going to sit on the couch and watch Bones, but we decided that we should get out and about because it is so sunny and beautiful up here--it feels like spring! It's nuts!
We were going to go to the beach to throw around frisbees and volleyballs, but decided we should check out the Hammond Trail, which runs along the coast from Arcata (where HSU is located) to north of McKinleyville (where we live). We went down Murray Road where are the super nice houses are with ridiculous views of the ocean and parked the car and set off. First we walked on the trail, then we decided we'd rather walk on the beach so we forged through a river and over miles of sand dunes and ended up at the beach. It was beautiful and there were tons of rocks and seashells scattered along the shore because the tide was really far out. I saw broken pieces of sand dollars and said, okay, it is our goal to find a whole sand dollar. We ended up collecting 9 beautiful ones! They were everywhere! We also found some cool rocks. We started heading back and thought we'd venture the opposite way down the beach. As we were walking I saw some lumpy things across the river on the shore--the river seperated where we were from the beach, though where we were walking was really sandy too. As we got closer I realized the lumps were a giant herd of seals! I'm sure herd isn't the right word, but dang! They were awesome! They slithered and flopped around and made lound groaning, yawning noises. SO COOL! We stood watching them for a good half hour then started heading back. We found a really neat piece of driftwood poking up out of the sand. It was huge! We climbed on top of it and sat on our perch watching the ocean.
After the beach we decided we needed fuel, so we went and got sandwiches at our local all natural health food store, Wildberries. Then we headed out to the Arcata Community Forest for a brief hike. As we were hiking we passed a guy holding a bow to a violin. We didn't think much of it. We climbed up on a big log that overlooked a vast expanse of forest. Minutes later, the sound of a violin floated through the redwoods. OMG! Seals and music in the forest all in one day! AWESOME! We were pooped after 4 hours of hiking on the beach and in the woods so came back home and watched season 3 of Bones for the rest of the night. I ended up doing some pilates and then we went to bed.
This morning I was supposed to have my Kinesiology class at 9. I was just dreading it. Why make myself miserable? Why get a degree in a field I'm not passionate about? I just don't have any positive feelings toward it. So I didn't go. I'm taking this semester off from the Master's program and I'm going to spend my time really trying to figure out what it is that will make me happy. I'm going to do research online to see if there's an online degree I can do, or somewhere abroad I can study and get funded, or whatever. I'm gonna take Tai Chi and maybe Badminton on my lunch. I'm still thinking about taking the color photo class, I'm going to go tonight and see how it is (it's 5 to 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, might be a little too much time on campus). Hopefully the hours are just darkroom hours and I can go in on weekends instead.
Okay. That's my decision. I am okay with it. I won't beat myself up for 'quitting', because I'm not quitting. I'm removing myself from a situation that makes me unhappy.
