Apathy... is one problem for sure. Maybe it's just my opinion, but I think that concern that is not directive or productive is just as bad as no concern at all. The idea that just caring is enough is a problem. It causes the bandwagon to be made for people to feel good about themselves over accomplishing nothing. It's the high schoolers who walk the streets doing sandwich runs. It's the protest rallies going through the Ryerson streetway when the beginning of the protest has completely different signs and issues than the end of the protest because people were embracing the experience of protesting instead of embracing the cause

i don't think caring and making themselves feel better is the same thing. which is also why i used 'likes and dislikes' as the measure rather than number of people making videos, or donating, etc. no one knows/cares when you like a video, there's actually no point in doing so and it's not enough to do any harm.. 'liking' a video does nothing other than show support to someone doing something good. and if that's enough to drive others to do good, that's enough for hope. i don't think hope is flimsy at all. i think it underlies everything meaningful. and there's no reason to have passion or information or action without it. passion and information comes after, and it will come naturally. but it'll only come, and be effective if there is hope, a belief that something can happen
