On Friday night, we had
sirendipity and
otis_nixon over for dinner. I tried to recreate the yummy lentil dish that we'd
had at the Tour de Cure rider lunch, but it didn't quite get there. I
was converted to the idea of using coconut milk on nuts and berries
and have been having it on granola when I don't use up a whole can. I
was very amused that we pretty much hit on every contentious topic
during our dinner conversation (religion, politics, abortion) but
things stayed civil (helped that we were mostly in agreement and
willing to civilly disagree otherwise).
Saturday I needed a down time day, and skipped out on an organised
National Parkour Day jam (I'm going to a jam in Harvard Sq this
Saturday though). I got a lot of sewing done, fixing the hem on my
circle skirt and doing all the cutting out for two more projects. I
also tea dyed the lace for a third project, I'm pretty happy with how
well it took with the strong assam, I'd been experimenting by
snipping bits off and soaking them in various leftovers from pots of
tea, though it came out more on the red end of brown than I expected.
Still better than the brilliant white polyester I was starting with
though.
Then I rode over to Harvard Sq to check out Figment, since a co-worker
was doing an installation. It was much bigger (and more Burning Man-y)
than I expected. Hung out with my co-worker for a while, a few others
also showed up and someone came by after I wandered off as well. She
was set up near some really neat umbrella/knotted white fabric
jellyfish on the bank of the Charles, as well as next to the
bellydance clearing, silks dome, and Emperor Norton's Stationary
Marching Band performance space so I caught bits of all of that. I'd
hoped to say hi to
klingonlandlady but she started her
performance as I was angling to get close enough to talk - it was
pretty crowded. I managed to extricate myself from the crowd before
the bright sun burned my head, and hit up China Fair to finally get a
souffle dish. Caught up on Doctor Who that night during/after
supper.
Sunday, I was scrambling a bit to level up my character before the
guys arrived for the early start for DND, I keep forgetting that
sorting out spells takes a while. I managed to throw together the
ingredients for a chocolate souffle and got it into the oven as we
started, and then forced the guys to eat it once it was done. :) It
has a similar ingredient list to the flourless chocolate cake, just
more eggs. Didn't quite set in the middle, I think I'm going to make a
tried and true recipe that will just succeed, I've been having minor
baking fail recently. I think we've been getting complacent in our
tactics,
heatray jumped on us as soon as we split the party.
I got to be the somewhat fragile tank (rolled another 2 for hit
points, but at least I got to up my Con and get some more now that I'm
fourth level) with a cleric behind me healing me every round. I rushed
out after game to make it to the book club meeting, and didn't
have a chance to check the missed call on my phone until I was
sitting in front of the house, at which point I found out it
was cancelled due to bad weather. We'd had a slew of
thunderstorms during our game, but the sun came out as I went
home. My weekends are pretty much packed and I wasn't impressed with
the late notice on the cancellation, so I'm not investing any more
effort into making the meetings. If they don't conflict with anything
else, I'll go, but I'm not rearranging my schedule again (they often
conflict with DND anyway).
Monday I made it out to Ceremony after a long break. I ended up having
a 23 mile biking day because I went home before heading back to the
club, but picking up my new polka dotted circle skirt was worth the
detour. :) I treated myself to breakfast for supper that night as
well, whipping up a blue cheese and spinach omelette. Oh, right, I'd
made waffles over the weekend as well, that was the other almost
baking failure, as I'd used almond milk instead of milk, and they
didn't cook as fast as usual, and they stuck to the waffle maker. :/
Granted, it's been losing it's non stick properties for a while, I
have to respray with oil after every one it seems, but this was the
worst yet. Anyway, started off with a G&T and conversations, and when
I tried dancing the combo of alcohol plus non sliding boots made it
annoying so I went back to talking to people. And even then I didn't
catch everyone I wanted to, so many people were out! Then again, I
also left at around midnight, but I was fading and had to work the
next day.
Yesterday I finally made a recipe from the gluten free cookbook that I
had taken out from the library: fish drizzled with lime juice and
topped with cilantro, baked in a banana leaf and served on top of
coconut rice. I also finally convinced myself to get on the elliptical
machine, and I'm suspecting that the half fillet + rice + breakfast
this morning wasn't quite enough to fuel me for the bike ride to work.
Or else someone turned up gravity again...
I've got some new and exciting joint pain going on, I think it's from
muscle tightness, so I stretched out a lot after doing the cardio last
night, and my hand at least is better today, and my foot isn't
twinging as much, but my knee is still complaining a little, but
that's IT band stuff and I have to use the foam roller to sort that
out.
