Urgh, Hurt Locker

I'm sorry but I don't see why Hurt Locker won the Best Picture award.

Yes, I've seen the movie. When it was over, I felt pretty much the same way I felt when I watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Yes, it was a well directed, well made, very pretty movie.

But aside from the first two scenes and the last two scenes, you could rearrange everything else and the movie would still make sense. Never mind, you could switch those four around too.

The main character doesn't change. He's exactly the same at the end of the movie as he is at the beginning. We aren't shown why he is the way he is or what he could become, he doesn't become a better person, he doesn't become a worse person.

The movie doesn't have anything new or interesting to say about its themes. Yes, war is hell. Yes, he doesn't care whether he lives or dies. Yes, he's fighting for the good 'ol US of A, or not. This has all been said before and in much better ways. It doesn't even present the enemy in an interesting or thought provoking way.

Personally, I'd like to know why the hell this movie was made to begin with. It doesn't even have the benefit of being inspired by a stoner and therefore have the potential to be funny. I can't find any value in this movie at all which is probably why it's an indie film.

At least Avatar had some sort of worthwhile message.
