So I thought that since the sweater River wears in Safe looks pretty simple (body + sleeves, no fancy patterns) it would make a nice first knitted sweater. Someone suggested a pattern out of the Stitch 'n Bitch book, which I have, so I might try that pattern.
But then I moved on to studying screen caps, trying to figure out the texture of the yarn, get a good idea of the color, etc. And the more I look at it, the more I'm convinced it's made out of some sort of woven material. Now I'm no textile expert but I've spent the majority of my time over the past nine weeks weaving (yay! for Intro to Structure) and staring at woven cloth. So unless I'm starting to see things, River's sweater is made of some sort of
plain weave fabric.
As far as I'm aware, there is no way of knitting that will leave square holes and definitely no way to allow fraying in both
horizontal and vertical directions with out using small pieces of yarn added in like a fringe to somehow achieve that look. While there is a
second section of material added to the bottom hem of the sweater, it doesn't look to me like it's fringe. It looks solid.
Any of you think I'm seeing things? If not, has anyone come across a fabric like this before, if so where?
