I didn't know you were in a band (however brief). Pooh. I have actually thought a few times that I would like to hear you play music on the guitar or something. Although 1) you don't have it at Stanford and, 2) yeah, putting one on the spot is pretty horrible when one is not confident in one's ability. I know I would feel really awkward if someone asked me to play something on the clarinet for them. Not horrible, but a bit awkward.

I think a lot of people at Stanford have similar things: lots of little 'Oh, that's interesting!' bits that don't really go too far. I play the clarinet, but am horrible at it. I used to play football and swim, but there's not really anything I can demonstrate about that anymore (I mean, yes, I can still do them, but not competitively). I love hiking and backpacking but manage to get on the trail maybe three times a year, let alone actually do something overnight. I have bear encounter stories, and the time I got my scalp split in the Thunder Dome, but they don't really got much past that. I think lots of people are 'interesting' in pretty uninteresting ways. It sounds good on paper, but not much more. Some people are good at spinning those little things into a bigger story, a more interesting persona. But even if you aren't, it is still good stuff to talk about, to connect over, to communicate.

People want to hear about you. Tell them.
